Australia’s Sunshine State…
Queensland is easily the best known Australian state. It is one of the world’s great holiday destinations – where else can you enjoy the Great Barrier Reef, the Outback, World Heritage Rainforest and Aussie beach culture!
Brisbane is the capital of Queensland and Australia’s fastest growing city. Within an hour’s drive of the city centre are the beaches of the Gold and Sunshine Coasts. The Gold Coast is where the action is for families. To start with, there are those world-famous golden beaches. In the unlikely event that the children have had enough of the beach, there is also a clutch of alternative attractions – Sea World, Dreamworld, Wet’n’Wild Water Park, Movieworld and Whitewater World. Explore inland and you will find another world – tropical World Heritage Rainforests, waterfalls, mountain villages and other hidden treasures.
The Sunshine Coast is best suited to couples or families whom simply want to relax at the wonderful beaches on offer. Fraser Island is the world’s largest sand island, and you can go four-wheel driving on its World Heritage shores. Noosa Heads, set on the edge of Noosa National Park and Laguna Bay, is buzzing with international standard shops, restaurants and accommodation.
Further north – just over an hour’s flying time from Brisbane – are the Whitsundays, a group of 74 tropical islands in a shimmering, vivid blue sea. This aquatic playground is the perfect escape for indulging in island relaxation and sailing adventures. The Whitsundays are home to Whitehaven Beach, consistently voted one of the best beaches in the world.
Tropical North Queensland is where the rainforest meets the reef. Few places on earth can boast such unique natural attractions with the Great Barrier Reef offering an underwater treasure of colorful coral and sea life and superb tropical rainforests of the Daintree within easy reach. Access to the north is through Cairns – 2.5 hours flying time from Brisbane – which has its own international airport. It’s a short hop from Cairns to the islands of the North Barrier Reef or Cape Tribulation.
